Your Questions, Answered

1. What is MailMate?

MailMate is an address-sharing marketplace connecting Hosts who share their residential addresses with Renters who need them for mail, privacy, or registrations. Our all-inclusive pricing ensures simplicity.

2. Am I renting an address or a mailbox?

You’re renting the use of a residential address for mail or privacy. Hosts provide access to their mailbox for retrieval (e.g., forwarding, pickup), included in the listing price.

3. How do I create a residential address listing?

Select ‘Residential Address’, add a title (e.g., ‘Seattle Home Address’), describe your address, set a price including retrieval fees (e.g., forwarding), note restrictions (e.g., no packages), and select a generic mailbox image from our options.

4. What image should I use for my residential listing?

Choose a generic mailbox image to protect your privacy. Download one from: Silver Modern Mailbox, Green Classic Mailbox, Black Wall-Mounted Mailbox, White Suburban Cluster Mailbox, Red Vintage Mailbox, Blue Urban Mailbox. Upload to your listing.

5. How do I pay for mail forwarding or other retrieval costs?

All costs, including forwarding postage or scanning fees, are included in the listing price, paid via Stripe at booking. Check the ‘Retrieval Fees’ field for details (e.g., ‘$5/month for weekly forwarding’).

6. Why are retrieval costs included in the listing price?

To keep things simple and transparent, Hosts set a single price covering address rental and retrieval costs (e.g., postage, scanning). No extra payments are needed.

7. What is address sharing?

MailMate connects you with Hosts who share their residential address for your mail or personal needs, securely and privately, with all costs included.

8. What are MailMate’s rules for Hosts and Renters?

Hosts and Renters must follow our Rules, including no illegal activities, no mail-in ballots or IDs, and respecting mail limits. Visit our Rules Page for details.

9. How do I retrieve mail from a residential address?

Choose from your Host’s options, like forwarding or pickup, included in the listing price. Check ‘Retrieval Fees’ for details (e.g., ‘$5/month for weekly forwarding’).

10. How should I set retrieval fees for my listing?

Estimate retrieval costs based on your services:
Forwarding: ~$0.73/letter (USPS First-Class Mail), e.g., $3/week for 4 letters.

Scanning: ~$1-$2/scan, e.g., $2/month for 2 scans.

Pickup: Free or ~$1/meetup, e.g., $4/month for weekly.

Packages: Only if allowed, e.g., $20/month for small packages (USPS Priority, ~$9). Include these in your listing price and detail in ‘Retrieval Fees’ (e.g., ‘$5/month for weekly forwarding, no packages’). See our Rules Page

11. How does MailMate verify Hosts and Renters?

We offer optional ID verification for Hosts and Renters. Verified users display badges like ‘ID Verified’ on their profiles and listings for added trust.

12. How do I find a listing with specific retrieval options?
