What’s Not Allowed on MailMate

  1. Mail-in Ballots: Sending or receiving election ballots through MailMate addresses, per voting laws.

  2. Government-Issued IDs: Receiving driver’s licenses, passports, or other IDs to prevent identity fraud.

  3. Illegal Activities: Using addresses for illegal purposes, including fraud, money laundering, or unregistered businesses.

  4. Hazardous Materials: Sending or receiving dangerous items (e.g., weapons, drugs, explosives) through the mail.

  5. Unauthorized Mail Handling: Hosts opening or tampering with Renter mail without consent.

  6. Misrepresentation: Providing false address details or using addresses for unapproved purposes (e.g., fake residency).

  7. Packages Over Limits: Receiving packages unless explicitly allowed by the Host (e.g., ‘No packages’ in listing restrictions).

Rules for Hosts

  1. Provide Accurate Details: Ensure your address and listing details (e.g., retrieval methods, restrictions) are correct.

  2. Follow Mail Laws: Comply with USPS or local postal regulations (e.g., no unauthorized mail opening).

  3. Respect Privacy: Keep Renter information confidential and share addresses only after booking.

  4. Honor Agreements: Deliver mail as agreed (e.g., forwarding, pickup) and communicate promptly via MailMate’s secure messaging.

  5. Set Clear Restrictions: Specify mail limits (e.g., ‘No packages, max 5 letters/week’) in your listing.

  6. Use Generic Images: Select from MailMate’s provided mailbox images during listing creation.

  7. Include All Costs in Price: Set a listing price that includes all retrieval costs (e.g., forwarding postage, scanning fees). Do not request additional payments outside the platform.

  8. Set Reasonable Fees: Base retrieval fees on actual costs (e.g., USPS First-Class Mail, ~$0.73/letter) and clearly explain them in your listing (e.g., ‘$5/month for weekly forwarding’).

  9. Complete Verification: Optionally verify your identity to display a trust badge and attract more Renters.

Share Your Address

Rules for Renters

  1. Use Addresses Legally: Only use the address for approved purposes (e.g., mail, privacy, registrations), not illegal activities.

  2. Respect Host Limits: Follow listing restrictions (e.g., no packages if specified).

  3. Provide Accurate Details: Share correct forwarding addresses or pickup details via secure messaging.

  4. Pay All-Inclusive Price: The listing price covers all costs, including retrieval fees (e.g., forwarding postage), paid via Stripe at booking. No additional payments are required.

  5. Communicate Clearly: Coordinate mail retrieval (e.g., forwarding, pickup) via MailMate’s messaging.

  6. Report Issues: Notify MailMate immediately if a Host violates rules (e.g., opens mail without consent).
